UNEXPECTED: A Journey Through 1 Samuel
What happens when God’s people want something that looks like power, success, and security—but God has an entirely different way of working?
Our upcoming sermon series, 'Unexpected' takes us through the book of 1 Samuel, where Israel asks for a king “like the nations.” God gives them what they ask for—and the results are far from what they expected. As Saul’s reign begins to collapse, God works from the margins and raises up an unlikely shepherd boy named David. Throughout 1 Samuel, we see the collision between human ideas of power and God’s subversive way of working. Again and again, God chooses what seems unlikely, overlooked, or unexpected to accomplish His purposes. The story ultimately points us toward Palm Sunday, when another unexpected king enters Jerusalem—not on a warhorse, but riding on a donkey. The crowd welcomes Him, but they still don’t understand the kind of King they are receiving. 
Unexpected invites us to ask: What if God’s work rarely looks the way we expect it to? And what if the things we mistake for weakness are actually the places where God is most powerfully at work?
